PUC Section 8387 requires that MID maintain and operate its electrical lines and equipment “in a manner that will minimize the risk of catastrophic wildfire posed by those electrical lines and equipment”. Senate Bill 901 requires Merced Irrigation District to “before January 1, 2020, and annually thereafter, prepare a wildfire mitigation plan.”
Based on a review of local fire risk conditions and historical fires within the MID service territory, MID has determined that its electrical lines and equipment do not pose a significant risk of being the origin or contributing source of ignition for a catastrophic wildfire.
MID’s overarching goal is to provide safe, reliable and economic electric service to its local community. In order to meet this goal, MID constructs, maintains and operates its electrical lines and equipment in a manner that minimizes the risk of catastrophic fire posed by those electrical lines and equipment, and in accordance with CPUC and North American Electric Reliability standards.
