We know how important affordable, reliable electricity is for your household. MID’s CARE and Medical Baseline Programs help qualifying customers reduce their monthly electric costs and receive additional energy at a lower rate when needed for medical reasons.
Eligible households may receive:
- A monthly discount on energy charges through the CARE program, and/or
- Additional baseline electricity allowance if someone in the home relies on life-supporting medical equipment or has a qualifying medical condition that requires extra heating or cooling.
As of July 1, 2026, customers enrolled in MID’s CARE Program receive:
- $30 off the monthly fixed customer charge on every electric bill.
- 20% off the first 1,200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy used each month.
- An additional 500 kWh per month billed at the Tier 1 energy rate.
Who is eligible?
To qualify for the program, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be a residential electric service customer.
- The address shown on your application for this program must be your primary address.
- You may not be claimed as a dependent on another person’s income tax return.
- For MED customers, eligibility must be verified by a licensed physician.
Verification of Eligibility
Each applicant must provide adequate proof that they meet the eligibility requirements. Eligible customers must notify MID of any income status change. Participants are subject to annual review and/or verification. Any attempt to defraud MID will result in customer’s removal from the program and a re-billing of the account at the regular rate. MID reserves the right to take legal action as warranted
