MID is a publicly owned, not-for-profit utility governed by a locally elected Board of Directors. We provide reliable electricity at cost and do not earn a profit on power or energy sales.
To ensure rates accurately reflect the cost of providing safe, reliable, and affordable service, MID periodically reviews its electric rates. The last update to base rates occurred in 2019.
Based on a recent Cost of Service study, MID’s electric rate changes were approved by the MID Board of Directors on June 2, 2026. The updated rates will take effect beginning with the July 1, 2026 billing cycle, with customers first seeing these changes on their August bills.
Why Rates Are Changing
- These rate updates align with the recent Cost of Service study
- To improve alignment between power supply costs, timing of procurement, and customer energy use
Impact of Rate Updates
- Overall net system‑wide average cost reduction of approximately 9%
- Base energy rates increase, while the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) is reduced
- Rate design remains largely the same across customer classes
Current vs. New Rates Comparison
The rate changes below have been approved by the MID Board of Directors as of June 2, 2026, and will be implemented beginning with the July 1, 2026 billing cycle. Customers will first see these changes reflected on their August bills. Additional information and resources are available in the attachments below.
