MID sponsors free day at Merced Kids Discovery Station on Sunday, May 28
Water safety, energy savings tips and more
Merced Irrigation District is sponsoring and helping host MID Day at the Kids Discovery Station on Sunday, May 28. Admission to the children’s museum, located at 350 West Yosemite Ave, will be free and include the unveiling of a new exhibit sponsored by MID to educate kids about energy savings.
MID staff will be on-hand with information about water safety, energy conservation and the new Junior Ranger Program at Lakes McClure and McSwain. Those attending will be able to participate in MID’s annual Water and Canal Safety Poster Contest. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in the Energy Conservation Poster Contest. Winners will receive passes to Splash-n-Dash Aqua Park at nearby Lake McSwain.
In addition to water safety, MID’s energy resources staff will be providing basic information about electrical currents, and attendees will have the opportunity to race miniature solar cars. Staff from MID’s Parks and Recreation will be available to discuss the new Junior Ranger Program.
“This is a great opportunity to connect with the community we serve,” said Mike Jensen, MID Public and Government Relations Manager. “The summer is here and the waterways are full. “We are excited to help promote energy conservation and talk to our local youth about the dangers of streams and open canals.”
The event begins at 10 a.m. and MID staff will be on-site until 2 p.m. The new exhibit unveiling will take place at 11 a.m. Entrance to Discovery Station Entrance will remain free until closing time.
“Kids Discovery Station is very excited about the new partnership with MID,” said Mayya Tokman, Executive Director of the Kids Discovery Station. “We are grateful for MID’s generous sponsorship of our new exhibit and cannot wait to share it with children and families. This new addition to our exhibits will equally delight children and adults.”
