MID adopts budget and sets the season’s water price

The Merced Irrigation District Board of Directors has adopted a $167 million budget for Fiscal Year 2024 and established a water rate of $50 per acre foot for this year’s irrigation season. MID Customer Service is currently accepting water orders. As demand for water increases, deliveries to growers will begin this month. Growers are encouraged to contact their Distribution System Operator for further information about pending orders.

The MID Water Management Implementation Plan and grower packets for 2023 will be mailed out in the coming days.

MID’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget will ensure the District meets all of its bond covenant requirements and cash reserve guidelines.

Lake McClure is experiencing one of the wettest years on record. With this winter’s storm events, the reservoir easily filled to its maximum-allowed operating level for this time of year. The reservoir is at approximately 65 percent of capacity with about 668,000 acre feet of water in storage.

“We are well positioned for the coming season,” said MID General Manager John Sweigard. “As always, we want to ensure we are being as responsive to our growers as possible and getting them the information they need about the upcoming irrigation season.”
