Merced Irrigation District is Now State's 25th Largest Public Utility The District Electric Services continues to bring reliable, competitively priced power to more Eastern Merced County communities. Merced Irrigation District Electric Services has grown into a full-fledged competitive public power resource for Eastern Merced County. We currently serve over 3,000 customers and have signed contracts for over 8,000 upcoming new residential units. Our customer base continues to grow. The Merced Irrigation District was awarded the contract to provide electric service to the Bellevue Ranch Project. The entire community will encompass about 1,400 acres. We've estimated the District is the 25th largest public utility in California. The District's ranking is near the City of Lodi and City of Azuza on the list, and the District is set to maintain this ranking with its dedication to serve its customers in the years ahead. The Districts 115-kilovolt transmission system serves parts of Livingston, Atwater, Winton, Merced and the entire Castle Airport Aviation and Development Center. Back to Top
Key District Electric Service Goals - Expand Merced Irrigation District's role as a provider of reliable, low-cost electric power in Merced County.
- Provide Eastern Merced County - primarily Livingston, Atwater and Merced - with low-cost power to attract business and retain jobs.
- Take advantage of competitive options to expand delivery grid to serve diverse customer base, including residential users.
- Provide positive cash flow for the District, including building a reserve for the very expensive process of re-licensing New Exchequer generating facilities by 2014 (estimated requirement: $12 million).
- Ensure that citizens of Merced and Mariposa counties obtain long-term benefits of New Exchequer and McSwain power plants after the year 2014.
